    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a day-to-day basis, I managed the social media accounts, as well as created and managed the strategies surrounding our Motorcycle divison youth marketing objectives, such as identifying which events were beneficial for the business to publicise it's presence at, on social media. I also supported the brand marketing section activations that were outside of the youth marketing endeavours, such as the planning and behind-the-scenes work of Honda Adventure Road, as well as Honda's presence in events like DL12 Indoor Trials and ABR festival.

  • I have honed in significantly on my administrative skills, as well as my corporate communication skills as I liaised daily with external agencies (such as our production agencies), partners (such as HAR partners), and companies (such as Epic Games and TikTok).

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given a lot of responsibility. Following some early success and commendable work at the start of my placement, I was given a positively-surprising amount of autonomy to make decisions on content strategies, directions, team KPIs etc. I was given the responsibility of deciding what was necessary to achieve our KPIs, as well as all of the planning, implementation and execution that came with it.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received good support from my team in the marketing department. As my role is a completely brand new role - a lot of my work was complicated to understand by other member of the marketing team (outside the 'Brand marketing' section I worked in), so it was difficult for them to offer much guidance. However, they were more than willing to support whenever asked. Outside my department and HR, I didn't need much of/ receive much support and guidance.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company atmosphere is positive. The open-seating plan in the offices particularly helps with this massively. However, the company culture-- while an overall net positive -- had some negatives, such as a pessimistic mindset and an unwillingness to take risks. In additional, the organisational structure is heavily hierarchical which is a negative for the marketing department as sign offs and approvals are required for far too much decisions that should otherwise be based on intuition, leading to missed opportunities.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I massively enjoyed my placement. I learned a lot and improved my skills significantly. i also got to contribute massively to the business' objectives with results that I could view in real-time, which fueled my motivation all throughout the placement year.
