Overview
The job adopts a more project-based approach to work and involves helping to roll-out new transformational technologies to different teams across HME. The primary focus was to roll out a new visualisation tool to help departments bring out useful insights and analysis. Project lifecycle involved, gaining stakeholder requirements, preparing and cleansing data, developing dashboards and training/presenting back to stakeholders to handover the project. The role also involved looking into different areas such as machine learning, data science and AI to see potential use cases within the business.
Skills
This year has allowed me to develop many skills with them being technical, interpersonal and professional. I have developed massively in understanding how to prepare data for different uses as well as gained a deep understanding of Microsoft power bi due to no experience in it beforehand. Throughout the year I have also been able to develop skills in data science and coding, learning to create predictive tools. It was also good to learn how to work within an organisation and its environment.
Responsibilities
Due to the nature of the role and the small team, I was trusted to work independently on different projects and given a lot of chances to share my opinions and help build strategy behind the department. The team made me feel like a full-time associate rather than just an undergrad.
Support & Guidance
The team was very supportive; they pushed me to lead projects and helped make the most out of the year by allowing me to take part in different Honda events as well as out of site meetings. They gave me a chance to develop new skills by taking part in different conferences on multiple different topics. If I had a problem they would help resolve, due to interacting on a regular basis.
Culture
Overall a positive and inclusive culture. Honda has a nice working environment making you feel fully part of the team. All associates met were very friendly and it was easy to get along with everyone.
Your Impressions
Overall, I have had a really good year working for Honda. It has been great to develop and gain experience within a global and established brand and has shown that I am definitely interested in working within an industry like this. I really enjoyed working and getting to know my team, it will be sad to leave them. However, it would be great if there was a potential graduate program for future prospects.
Yes
I would say, make sure to chuck yourself into every opportunity you are given and attempt to add value in everything you work on. Make sure you demonstrate fully what you can throughout the year that you are there.
