    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Each day varies a lot in the product team. Most days I will be looking into market data and analyzing it in an easy to understand format. I will align these projections with trends in the market. I review sales figures and competitor research to stay ahead. Lots of additional research of the automotive market is also needed to predict and prepare documents that the team may require.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • While working at Honda I have seen a massive improvement in my excel skills through macros and formatting data. I have also learnt how to use pre-existing data bases to download desired data. I've also learnt how to collaborate on an international scale between different cultures and organizations within a global recognized company

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was responsible in setting up and running an assessment center for the incoming undergraduates. Another example is helping organize test drive events for different regions for collogues to give feedback on the new models. I also prepared shipping data in order for dealerships to order their vehicles from overseas while needing to ensure that regulations are followed.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • While I appreciate the opportunity to grow in my role, I found that the support and guidance available to me as a new member of the team were limited. At times, I sensed frustration toward my learning process, which made it challenging to feel comfortable asking questions or developing my skills. However, when it came to learning concrete skills such as Excel, I was given the opportunity to purchase courses through the company which levelled up my skill base.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at Honda was largely shaped by a traditional, hierarchical approach to managing tasks and decision-making. This created a very structured and corporate atmosphere, where roles and responsibilities were clearly defined and accountability was highly valued. In my experience, there was a strong emphasis on delivering results and maintaining high standards, which often meant that when something went wrong, it was addressed directly in team meetings. This approach could make the environment feel quite formal and, at times, less forgiving for those who were still learning or adapting to their roles. However, I also recognized that the atmosphere wasn鈥檛 the same across all teams. While some groups operated with a more rigid and formal style, others seemed to foster a bit more camaraderie and support, making it easier to ask questions or seek guidance. Overall, the company valued responsibility and precision, and while this could create pressure, it also encouraged a professional and results-oriented mindset. I believe that for individuals who thrive in structured environments and are comfortable with clear expectations, Honda鈥檚 culture provides a solid foundation for professional growth.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement overall, particularly the hands-on opportunities such as going on test drives and getting to know the products on a personal level, which really deepened my understanding of the automotive industry. I also valued the chance to travel to Germany and experience different aspects of the business firsthand. While I sometimes found it difficult to integrate with my team, this challenge taught me how to adapt to changing environments and manage my time more effectively. The placement provided me with a wide range of skills鈥攎any of which I wouldn鈥檛 have learned at university鈥攁nd helped me develop strategies that have been invaluable for my professional growth. On the whole, it was a rewarding and educational experience.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Honda Motor Europe
  • You need to prepare for lots of your work to be checked through your team and the ability to take criticism without taking it personally. You need to have quite in-depth understanding of the automotive sector and market trends and also understand how to to basic charts and formulas on Excel
