Overview
The Hotel Accounting team acts as a custodian for the monthly management accounts of approximately 50 leased, owned, and managed Hilton hotels across the UK & Ireland and is the owner of the hotels’ Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets. This involves calculating and posting all required journals at month end and completing balance sheet reconciliations as well as responding to audit queries including SOX (internal and external), hotel additions and disposals and various continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills
Effective communication is definitely a skill which I have improved drastically in. I have also learnt how to better integrate into a team and find my place within a team where I can share my opinions but also respect the chain of command. I have developed my organizational skills as the workplace can be fast paced and forever changing which has made having clear plans and clear evidence of email chains etc very important to succeed.
Responsibilities
I have had responsibilities to maintain my template formats and keep accruals up to date by contacting suppliers and central managers. I have had support where needed but have been left to keep these updated and chase anything that is old down. If I was to put the amount of responsibility I had on a scale I'd give it a 6/10 as I was never overly responsible and there was always checks to my work
Support & Guidance
My managers and team were always there for support and would answer any query with quick, useful and easy to understand advice which definitely helped me gain the skills I have and settle into my position quickly
Culture
Company culture is relaxed but hard working. It is hybrid working and the office supports collaboration and enjoyment but the team know when to work hard and when to get stuff done so it has a really nice work-life balance
Your Impressions
It was good and I learnt a lot however I don't know if I'd want to return as I don't think I want to do this job again although Hilton as a company would definitely be a consideration. 8/10
Yes
