Skills
During my placement year, I had the opportunity to develop a wide range of valuable skills. Notably, I enhanced my abilities in financial analysis, time management, and teamwork. These experiences have not only broadened my practical knowledge but also significantly boosted my confidence as I prepare to return to university for my final year. In addition, I have made considerable progress in technical areas, such as improving my proficiency in Excel, which I now use more efficiently and effectively in a professional setting.
Responsibilities
At the beginning of my placement year, I was initially apprehensive about the responsibilities assigned to me. Many of the tasks felt daunting, especially given the importance of the roles I was expected to take on. However, I was fortunate to be part of a supportive team and work under leaders who made it clear that help was always available whenever I felt stuck or unsure. Their encouragement and guidance played a crucial role in helping me adjust and grow in the role.
Support & Guidance
Throughout my placement year, I received an exceptional level of support and guidance in every aspect—professionally, personally, and emotionally. Whether it was related to my job role, adjusting to life in a new city, or looking after my mental wellbeing, there was always someone available to help. This culture of support is something that truly sets the company apart; it's not something I believe many other organisations can match.
Culture
As I’ve already mentioned, the support from my managers and team was outstanding—but what truly sets Hilton apart is the company as a whole. Hilton goes far beyond just providing a workplace; it creates a community. There are countless events and initiatives designed to bring people together and reinforce the message that every individual matters. It’s this culture of inclusion and care that made my experience so unique. Groups such as PRIDE and ETHNIC are a testament to Hilton’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. They ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or identity, feels seen, heard, and valued.
Your Impressions
I absolutely loved my placement experience, and I genuinely believe it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. As I approach my final few weeks, I never thought I’d feel this way, but I’m honestly gutted to be leaving. This year has been filled with unforgettable memories, invaluable experiences, and personal growth that I know will stay with me for years to come
Yes
My advice to anyone applying to Hilton is: be authentic, be open to learning, and be ready to grow. Hilton values people for who they are, not just what’s on their CV. Show your personality, passion, and willingness to get stuck in. You don’t need to know everything—what’s more important is your attitude, curiosity, and eagerness to learn.
