Overview
The role involves completing daily, weekly and monthly tasks simultaneously. There are periods of higher intensity during month-end and then periods of not as much workload throughout the month. I am responsible for setting up projects daily ( I.e. recording fixed assets into our accounts from an automated email). We then communicate with Financial managers across the UK and Ireland regarding the status of these projects. Whether they are in use in the hotel. If so, we can clear them from our accounts and account for them. This entire process is what i have been working towards but within a small and supportive team.
Skills
I have especially developed my soft skills, including the use of Microsoft applications. I am also proud to say that I can use excel confidently and efficiently. Communicating, being part of a team, and taking ownership of projects are also skills I have developed throughout this experience. Not only have I developed my academic and professional skills, But i have also adopted very beneficial habits for my personal life such as a structured routine and journaling .
Responsibilities
Yes, I was responsible for many tasks and was a key-player for month end close.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support, from my manager, to colleagues, to interns on the same boat as me. I knew who to talk to whenever I needed support.
Culture
The company culture was amazing, the people that work for Hilton are wonderful and very open. It is fun and engaging to come into the office on certain days as it is usually busy. Moreover more often than not, engaging activities are organized by different departments.
Your Impressions
The internship was very enjoyable, Glasgow is an amazing with a lot to do and rarely getting bored. The fact that the placement is with another 9 interns is also helpful to socialize and have a group to go out and enjoy time off of work. The actual work itself was well distributed and not too overwhelming, however, at times, monotonous.
Yes
As for advice, Be yourself. Hilton is an amazing company to work for, Being genuinely nice and wanting to do the right thing for the company, colleagues and clients is always going to be looked up to. By spreading the light and warmth of hospitality outside of working hours, or across departments, is a trait the company actively look for.
