    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work in a small team, meaning that I have a wide variation of tasks. I communicate with our spa leaders and other team members, over email and virtual meetings. I analyse financial results, present data and monitor projects. Some of the projects that I have got involved in over the year, include End of Year Campaign and Virtual Spa Leadership Meeting for all our managed spa properties in EMEA, these are done to encourage engagement and connect with our spa leaders.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed so much more than I would have expected to going into a placement, and have learnt both new skills and developed many of my existing skills. My confidence throughout the year has increased massively, being able to network and present effectively. Being in a corporate environment has meant that my communication skills have improved, through email correspondence and in meetings. I have also had the chance to improve my excel skills, often being tasked with analysing data, which I can now do efficiently.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, my managers gave me a lot of responsibility, and I was made to feel like an important part of the team. I was trusted to manage my own tasks and deadlines, and my input was valued when contributing to team projects. I was also given the responsibility of leading meetings and ensuring projects stayed on track. This level of trust and involvement helped me develop professionally and feel confident in my role.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of support and guidance, especially towards the start of the internship. The workplace culture at Hilton is so welcoming and everyone in the office (not just my team) is willing to listen to queries and offer guidance. There is also a large intern cohort which made the transition from university to placement easier, as the intern program is very well supported. My team have offered me support throughout the year and have been made to feel like no question is stupid. We have check-ins regularly, where we can reflect on my progress and guidance is given if necessary.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at Hilton is amazing and is something that I have heard many team members comment on. Everyone is incredibly welcoming and it is clear that they are passionate about the company they work for. The office has a friendly and social atmosphere, with many events held for team members to take part in, for example, socials organised each quarter and insightful talks from senior leaders.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my year with Hilton, and it has exceeded all my expectations. The opportunties have been endless and it has given me the chance to grow so much both personally and professionally. I have not only enjoyed my role and the variety of projects I have had the chance to get involved in, but also the company culture has stood out to me massively throughout the year, which has made the experience even more enjoyable.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Hilton
  • My advice would be to be genuine. Especially as an intern, it doesn't matter if you don't know everything, instead they are looking for passion and willingness to learn. Be yourself in your interviews and let your personality come through as this will show the interviewer that you will fit in well with the company culture. Do your research on Hilton's values and think about how these resonate with you and why you are interested in the role.
