Overview
A typical day would involve working on a new hotel development project, and these projects can vary in their brand, location, size, market segmentation and more. Feasibility studies involve doing market research, planning financial projections and doing analysis and valuation. We work mostly independently, but review projects with our team and also work on projects helping other teams, and team objectives, which can involve anything from spreadsheet modelling to researching market trends and data analysis.
Skills
The biggest skill I've developed is using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. I've also been able to practice presenting, writing, analysis, and market research. I've learned a lot about the hospitality industry and hotel finance specifically.
Responsibilities
I was given a nice amount of responsibility in my role, getting to work on a lot of independent projects. I had a lot of opportunity to be creative, take initiative and be innovative with market research and developing analysis methods.
Support & Guidance
My team were friendly and supportive, I felt I could always ask questions or ask for help. Support and guidance is also offered by the HR and recruitment teams, particularly as part of the intern program.
Culture
Hilton has an amazing company culture, people are friendly, it's very international and there are lots of opportunities to network. There are many events including panel talks, teams presenting what they do, milestone celebrations, committee events, and social events, which were all of outstanding quality. There are amazing benefits for team members and at the office, there is a subsidized canteen, a free gym, and other wellbeing activities and areas.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement to a great extent, I had many opportunities to meet people, go to new places, and learn. The company culture is amazing and I would definitely recommend a Hilton placement.
Yes
Be yourself, research the company and the hospitality industry, research what the role involves, and ask questions in your interview. Show that you're interested, and don't worry about having the right answers, just show that you're willing to learn and would be good to work with in a team.
