    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it - it gave me a good insight into the profession and an even better one into the company.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • They were great, always happy to explain pieces of work or answer any questions. The tasks I was given really made their lives easier so they appreciated my efforts and made an effort to show me the final result of my work.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager frequently got in touch to see how I was getting on and gave me advice when I had too little/too much work. He gave me suggestions on how to get the most out of the internship and get the broadest experience possible.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It really depended on the day. Most days I had enough to keep me busy; some days I was struggling to find things to do; some days I was turning down work.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility. The nature of the role is that all my work would be checked by a more senior associate, then reviewed by someone even more senior, so even if I made mistakes, it would be picked up before it caused any problems.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I picked up won't be much use for my degree (apart from standard time management, organisational etc.) but would be extremely useful if I got the job at TW or decided to pursue Actuarial Consulting as a profession.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Great - it was open plan and used a hot-desking system, so you'd always be moving about. People were chatty and friendly, but equally were busy and weren't too distracting. The office itself was really nice, with lots of communal areas and a Starbucks onsite.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The company know exactly what they're doing, there were no problems and the people know what to expect from interns.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given training at the start of the internship on the software that we would be using and throughout the 8 weeks people continuously sat down with me to explain the tasks I was given

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I could potentially get offered a job in the next few weeks based on my performance

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There was a pub trip every Friday, as well as team lunches and celebration drinks when people passed actuarial exams. We also were invited to the company's annual boat party on the Thames, which was heavily subsidised. Sports were more limited, although there were a few opportunities to get involved.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Central London = expensive

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Good! Loads of pubs and clubs within walking distance

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were plenty of opportunities, my personal favourite being free drinks in the office on the first Friday of each month. Some of the other interns were less interested in this side of things, which was a shame.
