The Role
I had an excellent time during my internship at Towers Watson, it was a very rewarding experience.
From day one I was welcomed into the team and had involvement with client projects. At the same time everyone understands the position you're in and I received loads of support.
I had fantastic support during my internship. In addition to my project managers who assisted me with the bulk of my work, I had a buddy and a line manager who were more than happy to discuss any problems I was having. In terms of guidance, I had very clear objectives and regular meetings to make sure I was able to achieve these.
Very busy, the work I was delegated took up the vast majority of my internship. If I finished ahead of schedule, I would simply inform my managers and they would provide me with more work to do. In addition, I offered to help others around the office and through this met loads of new people and got involved with some really interesting work.
I was given a lot of responsibility, everyone left you to get on with your work in your own way and trusted that it would be completed to the highest order. Naturally, as I was an intern my work was checked over upon completion. In addition, I had a small amount of client contact, just a few e-mails.
Naturally that depends whether or not I pursue a career in the same field. If so, I feel very well equipped. More generally though, I developed my problem solving, analytical, presentation, communication and many other skills. All of which will be valuable in whichever career I choose to pursue.
The Company
There was a hard working yet friendly atmosphere. For the most part people quietly get on with their work. However as soon as I had a problem I felt as though I could ask any of my colleagues for assistance and everyone is very helpful and understanding. It was also reasonably sociable, there was time for general chat and I quickly got to know everyone sitting around me well.
Very well organised, the support structure was excellent. The work was accessible yet challenging. There was a lot of training to aid our work and lots of exposure to different people in the business.
Very much so, we received loads of training throughout the internship. Everyone I encountered was more than willing to give up their time to assist you with any queries/problems you might have.
Very appealing, they have a great grad scheme and give massive amounts of support to all the people studying for their actuarial exams.
The Culture
Yes, there were plenty of opportunities to go out for drinks with my colleagues.
London. Need I say anymore?
I was in central London so there were pubs, clubs and bars everywhere.
Yes, plenty of opportunities to go out for drinks with colleagues.
