The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. The office was a great working environment and the people I worked with were extremely welcoming.
I felt like part of the team throughout my internship as I was trusted with some actual client work.
Support and guidance were always available if needed. Everyone emphasised that we should ask lots of questions, no matter how stupid or insignificant they seemed.
We joined at a busy time for the office, so we got quite busy very quickly. I always had work to do - if I didn't have client work, I was able to work on one of the on-going projects allocated to the interns specifically.
A good amount of responsibility was given to me. I was slightly worried at the beginning that I might do something wrong that would affect other people. But Towers Watson has a do, check, review process so my work was always checked before it moved onto the next stage.
I think I learnt a great deal from my internship and developed my time management, teamwork and presentation skills amongst others.
The Company
Hard-working but also relaxed at times, which meant you weren't afraid to talk to people during working hours. The office in Reigate is extremely friendly and socialable - I really enjoyed working there.
The placement was fairly well organised. All the interns in the UK had their first day in London, then we spent the rest of the internship in our allocated office. We had intern projects to keep us busy and a lot of training in the first week. I was never sitting at my desk doing nothing; there was always something to do.
We had a couple of weeks that contained a lot of training sessions. We also had a couple of chances to present to senior associates and a couple of chance to interview other associates.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I think the future employment prospects within the organisation are very appealing. I'm fairly certain that if I am offered a position that I take it.
The Culture
I was able to attend quite a few socials in my six weeks - the summer social and the rounders tournament were the highlights for me!
The office is in quite an expensive area so the cost of living was quite high. The pubs and restaurants close by are not particularly expensive however.
I never went clubbing in the end but I heard fairly good reports! There are a good number of pubs around.
There were chances to get involved in organising social/charity events and participate in company sports teams.
