The Role
Enjoyed the internship - the atmosphere at Towers Watson is really positive and friendly, which meant that I could settle in quickly.
I felt valued by colleagues - I was trusted to complete tasks and help on projects, and was made to feel that my contributions were valuable.
I was given really good support, and everyone I spoke to was happy to help me. That definitely aided the amount that I could learn.
I wasn't very busy, which was a shame. I got to help with loads of projects, and sometimes I was reasonably busy. but a lot of the time I was waiting for things to do.
I was given a good amount of responsibility - some tasks that I did required a higher level of responsibility than others. I was able to give advice based on research that I had done. The work that I did was checked, but to a large extent that's just good practice.
I think that this experience gave me a good insight into the industry, and helped with broader skills, even if I wouldn't really say it would help with degree studies.
The Company
It's a great environment - everyone is really friendly, helpful and hard working. You get the sense, right from the first day, that you could go up to anyone and they would help you.
I had some good introductory meetings set up, and an induction day. Because the industry is reliant on clients, it would have been hard to organise exactly what I would be doing in advance. However, I think it would have been useful if there was some sort of mock project that interns could work on as a group, as Towers Watson have for their graduate program.
They definitely put the time into helping with my development. My manager organised weekly meetings with me to check on my progress, and I got to work with people from across the business to develop a broader understanding of what goes on. Most of my formal training was online.
Company Parties/Events
I think Towers Watson is a really good organisation for progression, which is definitely appealing. I also can't overestimate the extent to which its genuinely nice environment makes it a place that I would want to work.
The Culture
I would say that it was quite limited on the social side - one formal social and an occasional drinks event or lunch throughout a six week internship.
It's London.
Yeah, again, it's London.
Not really through work, but there are tonnes of things that you can do around the place if you just go out and look.
