About You
I really enjoyed the day, in particular having the opportunity to explore a couple of different areas of the company in addition to the focus of the day, which was Actuarial Consulting. It didn't get boring as we had a few small group tasks to undertake, including making paper planes.
The staff stated that they very much appreciated us putting in the time and effort to attend the day and that this would definitely assist future internship applications. They gave the impression that we were very interested in us as future candidates and didn't appear to be judging us. They were very keen to impress us. Expenses were paid and lunch and snacks were provided as well as a goodie bag.
I felt very supported as the company didn't assume that we had any prior knowledge in the area or expect us to ask really intelligent questions. One of the most valuable tasks was when we split into groups of three to consider different issues facing the industry. Each group had one person from the company to discuss these issues with on a totally informal basis which was very enlightening.
The information I received has really helped me to choose what to focus on in my degree and to really take an interest in the economic climate.
The Company
The day was very well structured and went really quickly. After an intro, did about 2 hours learning about Actuarial work and another 2 hours after lunch on Software Engineering and Investment Consulting. We had the opportunity to become a brand ambassador at the end of the day.
Very friendly, it was clear that the company had a very supportive environment.
They were very keen to impress us and made it clear that they would look upon our internship applications favourably. They treated us as potential candidates for a job with the company in the future.
It would have been helpful to see more of the day-to-day work or to have a quick look around the offices. I think that they took the focus off the mathematical and statistical elements of the work to make it seem more accessible and I was curious to find out more about this aspect.
They try to promote a very supportive environment, one in which you have the opportunity to be creative in your thinking and put forward new ideas.
It was extremely helpful and also became clear that applying to one area of the company didn't mean that your career path was set in stone.
Everything Else
Lunch and snacks were also provided.
Yes, over lunch and during breaks. The opportunity to become a Brand Ambassador meant that you would not lose touch with the company after the day, as you otherwise would.
They didn't specify that there would be any future events.
No, I think there are opportunities but they did not talk about them. This could be a good added incentive.
Yes, absolutely.
