    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work in the retirement team as an intern and this involves mainly taking part in training initially, but progressively taking on more client work including using specialist software and drafting communications directly to clients. I also take part in hub meetings weekly and there are also opportunities to shadow senior colleagues.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Greatly developed my timekeeping skills and my ability to prioritise certain tasks over others. I've also developed a lot of technical knowledge on specifically calculations involving pensions but also my financial knowledge as a whole has developed as well.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, almost immediately I started doing work on assignments that directly impact large companies and their pension schemes, although there are a lot of contingencies in place to make sure the work eventually submitted is correct.

  • Lots of training online which was very useful, also in the office everyone's very willing to help explain things that you find confusing.

  • Very friendly, everyone is social and there are lots of opportunities outside of work to do things with the team.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to WTW
  • Try and find times you have shown initiative and a willing to work as that's very important at WTW, and also have a general knowledge of what WTW does and a rough idea of what the pensions industry is like (although not super important as there is a lot of training on this).
