Overview
I am a retirement actuarial intern and my my role involves assisting with individual calculations such as transfer values. As well as performing monthly tasks for clients.
Skills
Definitely! I have been able to learn how to use specific software used by actuaries to perform individual calculations. As well as utilise specific excel formulae to assist with these calculations. I have also strengthened my ability to prioritise tasks and manage workload effectively while balancing multiple hours of training. Aside from technical skills, I have been able to develop meaningful connections with my colleagues.
Responsibilities
I have only just finished the bulk of my training and so have recently started to get involved in more client work. At the moment I am halfway through my internship and feel like I have been given a decent amount of responsibility to complete work.
Support & Guidance
WTW is great at ensuring you always have people to go to when in need of help. I have an assigned buddy who is a great mentor and person to go to for anything. It doesn't even need to be actuarial related! My line manager and other colleagues are also great at helping me to settle in and adjust to the workload. I must also mention the trainers are incredibly great!
Culture
The atmosphere is incredible! It really feels like you're welcomed and comfortable from the very beginning. It is easy to build trust with other people and get to know them. There is a strong emphasis on not being afraid to ask, even if it's something which seems silly!
Your Impressions
I am enjoying my internship very much, the time seems to be going so fast!
Yes
My main advice is to try your hardest with your online assessments and then for the final stages-be authentic and talk about your experiences.
