Overview
I work in the DBMW SRE (Database Middleware Site Reliability Engineering) team, where I primarily focus on Delphix, a virtual data management tool. My day-to-day responsibilities include managing and automating database refreshes, handling virtual data environments, monitoring performance, and ensuring data masking processes run smoothly. I also support infrastructure reliability tasks, write Python scripts for automation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues and improve system stability.
Skills
Yes, I鈥檝e significantly expanded my technical skill set during this placement. I gained hands-on experience with tools and technologies such as Delphix, Terraform, Ansible, Autosys and AWS. I鈥檝e improved my proficiency in Python for scripting and automation, deepened my understanding of Linux (especially Red Hat), and worked with Oracle databases. I also became more familiar with Autosys for job scheduling and React for frontend development. These experiences have strengthened both my technical and problem-solving abilities in real-world environments.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given significant responsibility during my placement. I worked on global projects including Delphix storage management, developing a dashboard for monitoring, and supporting OS upgrade initiatives. I also contributed to the NPC 2.0 and automation framework and regularly handled day-to-day tasks such as writing Python scripts for automation and troubleshooting. These responsibilities allowed me to make real contributions to the team and gain hands-on experience in high-impact projects.
Support & Guidance
I received a good balance of support and independence during my placement. My team was always approachable and willing to help whenever I faced challenges. I had regular catch-ups with my manager and mentors who provided guidance, especially during complex tasks like setting up automation frameworks or managing Delphix environments. This support helped me learn quickly while also encouraging me to take initiative and solve problems on my own.
