Overview
From Day 1, it involved working on live cases with associates and senior associates. This could be draft summary reports on leases, draft due diligence/search check reports on property and contracts, large research tasks on new legislation or future government plans for clients, or small research tasks on legislation. Also, having the ability to throw yourself into the culture of the firm and immerse yourself through socials, sports activities, and the support networks. Friendly internal interactions across the board in both practice groups I worked in.
Skills
I've developed extensive research skills utilising official law platforms, such as practical law, and have gained new knowledge of how real estate and public procurement leases work. I've developed my soft skills further, such as leadership, communication, notetaking, listening, and presenting through speech and writing through research tasks, analysis tasks, summary tasks, and presentation tasks.
Business Insight
It was great, all colleagues were helpful and their knowledge was insightful. They talked extensively about the culture of the office, in concurrence with the work. The roles available were extensively detailed by several people, from niche roles to very broad work.
Culture
The culture was great. We were invited to several socials with the younger trainees to help integrate into the environment, as well as being invited to several sporting events and socials. Office wider socials were also provided, giving the opportunity to speak to everyone at the office. We were told of all the support networks that run throughout the UK offices, exhibiting great aid for those disadvantaged and focusing greatly on intersection where possible.
Your Impressions
I loved it. Everyone was incredibly friendly, the culture was inclusive and integrated, and the work was challenging, but well explained and detailed. Both seats gave me real practical knowledge, as well as providing me with insight of what types of tasks and projects solicitors may be working on.
