    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As an intern, you will be assigned one or multiple clients throughout the year. You will work on auditing the year end / quarterly reports. Tasks will involve tying out the financial statements, prior year figures, disclosure notes, and front section figures. Daily meetings with your team. Coordinating with GBS team members located in India. Attending calls with or emailing the client to obtain supports. Use of EY AI audit tools to help complete tasks quicker. Excel will be used on the daily to complete tasks. On some clients, you may be required to go to client site weekly.

  • Yes, a wide range of skills, including teamwork, the ability to work under pressure, time management, and communication. I also delveloped technical accounting knowledge and enhanced my Excel skills.

    Responsibilities

  • As the year progressed, I was given more and more responsibility. I was able to complete more complex tasks. I could also reach out to the client without being supervised by my seniors.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very inclusive. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. However, during busy season, the environment can get quite stressful and overwhelming.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Very much enjoyed it. Learnt a lot. Now got a head start on my journey to becoming a qualified Chartered Accountant. If given a return offer, I will definitely be returning after university.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to EY
  • Make sure to have a list of examples that you can talk about on how you can demonstate the skills they looking for. Use the STAR technique when answering these type of questions. Also, know why you want to work there and a bit about the industry. They do not expect you to have any knowledge of accounting/audit. They are looking for someone who is willing to work hard, learn, and contribute to the firm. You get extensive on the job training, so do not worry.
