    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Manufacturing Engineering Placement Student at Jaguar Land Rover, I supported daily production operations by designing and implementing tooling solutions, resolving build quality issues, and improving assembly processes. My responsibilities included collaborating with cross-functional teams, conducting root cause analysis, and using CAD and additive manufacturing to develop practical solutions. I regularly engaged with associates on the line, gathered feedback, and ensured that engineering changes were effectively integrated into the production environment to enhance efficiency and product quality.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During my placement, I developed strong technical skills in CAD, additive manufacturing, and tooling design, alongside practical experience in root cause analysis and structured problem-solving. I enhanced my ability to work collaboratively across departments, communicate technical ideas effectively, and manage engineering projects from concept to implementation. Exposure to real-world manufacturing challenges also strengthened my adaptability, attention to detail, and understanding of quality standards, preparing me for future roles in mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

I led the design and testing of bespoke tooling, coordinated with suppliers and internal teams, and supported implementation on the production line. I was accountable for managing timelines, documenting technical work, and presenting outcomes to senior stakeholders. This level of responsibility developed my confidence, independence, and readiness for professional engineering roles.
