Overview
I work within the Customer Journey team, liaising with the House of Brands (primarily Range Rover & Defender) to come up with future strategies for services, content and activations that we could offer. The role of the Customer Journey team is to support the brands with taking a customer focus and help them to create a true luxury experience. My role was to support with this by running and attending workshops with the brands and other key teams to come up with ideas, create a proposition and share back with the brand teams.
Skills
I have developed some skills like communication with internal and external stakeholders. As well as research skills, and creating professional documents and presentations. I have developed my presenting skills and been able to present to a range of levels within the business. I have learned new skills around customer experience and how to take a customer focused approach to my work. I have developed stakeholder management skills when working with internal and external stakeholders. I've also improved by writing ability through working with the PR and Comms team.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given responsibility during my placement. The first big project I worked on I was supporting my manager with it and he gave me some smaller areas to own and work on. And then when we conducted a similar project for one of the other brands, I was given the opportunity to lead on this project and present it back to senior management. I have also had the chance to write a range of internal and external communications that have been published, through my work in PR & Comms.
Support & Guidance
The support I received was excellent and I always felt like I had the support of my team. My managers have been amazing and supported me throughout the year. They've supported my ambitions and helped me to get what I wanted out of the year and helped me to get a range of experience. Overall I've had great support from the 2 teams that I have worked in.
Culture
The culture at JLR is typically very positive. There are a range of networks that you can join. One of the networks that I am part of is the Young Professionals Network. They support early careers and give opportunities for young people to get involved and have some good experiences outside of day-to-day work. The culture is positive, and with Customer Love at the centre of the business, this is an area that many people focus on.
Your Impressions
I have had a great year at JLR and I am sad to be leaving, I'd love to return to JLR in the future as it is an amazing place to work. The business is moving in an exciting direction and there are so many different areas that you can make an impact. The business supports Early Careers well and it is a great place to get some work experience while at University.
Yes
Research the business and know why you want to work at JLR. JLR is bigger than just an automotive manufacturer, look at the strategy behind the business and understand the direction they are going in with the House of Brand structure (Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender, Discovery). This will help in your interview, and it will be good to talk about this direction and why you want to be a part of JLR's journey. If you have a true passion for the business, that is important, so let it shoe.
