  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a Manufacturing Process Engineer at JLR, I oversee the delivery of the EDU (Electric Drive Unit) assembly line. My role involves planning, implementing, and optimising manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, high-quality production. I collaborate with cross-functional teams, resolve technical issues, and drive continuous improvement. On a typical day, I support production activities, monitor process performance, and implement engineering solutions to enhance output and safety.

  • I've significantly developed my CAD skills and gained hands-on experience with PLCs, PMS, and KUKA robot programming. I鈥檝e strengthened my ability to liaise effectively with cross-functional teams, lead key projects from concept to delivery, and manage substantial budgets. Working closely with suppliers has enhanced my negotiation and communication skills. These experiences have deepened both my technical expertise and my confidence in driving high-impact engineering solutions within complex manufacturing environments.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, definitely鈥擨 was trusted with significant responsibility throughout my placement. I took ownership of several high-value machines, each worth around half a million pounds, ensuring their integration and performance met production targets. I also led strategic projects with long-term impact on the EDU assembly line, shaping future workflows and efficiencies. This level of responsibility not only challenged me technically but also sharpened my decision-making and project leadership skills in a real-world, high-stakes environment.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received incredible support throughout my placement. I was trained by a team of highly qualified and experienced engineers who generously shared their knowledge and took the time to guide me through complex systems and processes. Their mentorship played a key role in helping me build confidence, rapidly develop technical skills, and take on meaningful responsibilities within the team. The collaborative and supportive environment made a huge difference in my overall growth.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at JLR was genuinely positive and supportive. There was a strong sense of teamwork, with everyone鈥攆rom engineers to managers鈥攂eing approachable, collaborative, and always open to sharing knowledge. The atmosphere on site was fast-paced yet friendly, creating the perfect environment for learning and innovation. I felt truly valued and encouraged to contribute from day one, which made the experience both motivating and rewarding. It was a fantastic place to grow professionally.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement鈥攊t was an incredibly rewarding and enriching experience. Every day brought new challenges and opportunities to learn, from working with cutting-edge technologies to being part of a genuinely supportive and inspiring team. The trust placed in me to lead projects and make impactful decisions made the role even more fulfilling. I felt motivated, valued, and genuinely excited to contribute, which made my time at JLR both enjoyable and unforgettable.

Whether it鈥檚 about showing unity, delivering with purpose, or finding a way forward, these values guide how teams work, solve problems, and innovate.
