    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role entails supporting the design and the deployment of various learning programmes to colleagues within JLR. I heavily support a managerial development programme, which gives newly hired or promoted managers key skills to equip them. Within this role, I maintain the virtual learning resources on a purpose built website and understand and manage the data behind the programme in terms of how many people complete the programme. I also facilitate their launch event and hold forums for the learners to give feedback.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to use Microsoft PowerPoint more efficiently to create tiles for websites a well as creating more interesting and engaging slides. I have learnt more about excel, which formulas are applicable to my role and will give the data I need. I have had opportunities to present which has improved my public speaking abilities and means I have more confidence speaking in front of large audiences. I have learnt project management skills by leading a team of people that have not previously worked together to create solutions that can help our team.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes I was given responsibility to use my own initiative to join projects that align with my interests and what I want to improve, even if they sit outside my scope of work. I also led a project a small team from two months in which gave me project management skills and increased my communication skills. I also feel like my work has impact, as I the work I support in some programmes get rolled out to all the business.

  • I have been supported through wanting to reach the goals I set myself at the start of the year. For example, I wanted to improve my public speaking skills so I was given the opportunity to present then was given detailed feedback on what I can improve. I have also been given time to be inquisitive, to ask questions to people from other teams and find out more about their role.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
  • I would advise to research the company thoroughly beforehand so you are prepared for the questions and it shows you care and have had the initiative to look into it. Look into the new strategies and behaviours that JLR hopes to represent. Answer all questions truthfully, as you aren't expected to have loads of experience you just need to have the right attitude and approach.
