    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role covers quality of inverters in the current fleet cars. Using problem solving skills and data analysis to help diagnose and resolve flagged issues. This involves kitting up cars with test equipment and measuring signals through diagnostic software whilst driving the cars in specific scenarios. I also regularly communicate with suppliers and engineers in different teams to discuss flagged issues, how to tackle them and what potential fixes are.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt many skills within both the world of diagnostics and data analysis, gaining experience in CANalyzer, Inca, MDA, CSSLaunch, SSLogview, Catia v6 and many more. I have also refined skills in areas like Excel and public speaking. I have learnt how to effectively communicate with other engineers inside and out of my team. I have also been provided with resources to improve in skills outside of engineering, going on first aid training

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility during my time at JLR. I have been given the sole job of completing a full background check and data analysis for a prominent issue as well as creating sufficient test plans to replicate the fault which was then used to set a foundation to fix the fault completely. I have also validated new software with a time sensitive deadline, making sure it was ready for next release.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • When joining the company, I was provided with hours of training to increase my understanding of the company and team. I was very well guided with my supervisor always being able to help if I needed any. As I progressed, I put myself in positions with little guidance to help improve my skill set, however I could always get support from my team if I needed any.

Through the undergraduate programme they offered many opportunities to see different areas of the company. JLR also provided a very friendly atmosphere with multiple coffee chains, a store, shop and a cafeteria with outside seating.
