Overview
Formulation of hair conditioner prototypes in the lab. Characterisation of product quality and performance testing. Desk work involves reading surrounding literature and analysis of data collected in the lab. Sharing findings at team meetings with powerpoint slides.
Skills
Developed in-lab skills, learning about different experimental techniques used to characterise conditioners. Communication and presenting skills developed from team meetings. Time-management, planning experimental work around out-of-lab responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Yes. My research projects were my own work and I was left trusted to complete the work in appropriate time. Also expected to draw my own conclusions and contribute to directing the next steps.
Support & Guidance
Less than I thought I would. Initial training with software systems and in-lab equipment was always provided. After that, you are expected to be able to operate these independently, but you could always ask someone more experienced for help if they have the time. My Line Manager was particular nice and always helped me or directed me to someone who could help whenever I asked.
Culture
Quite relaxed. My managers were never breathing down my neck ensuring I was being productive. Most people are quite smiley and always up for a conversation. Never anything hostile between people, but some prefer to mind their own business and aren鈥檛 as talkative.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed most of it. Having the other 西瓜视频s around was great because we always sat together in the office and at lunch. The science can be really interesting and meetings can prompt engaging discussions. Sometimes monotonous tasks can be boring. There can be periods where workload is heavier but sometimes its nice to be busy.
Yes
Show your personality well during the interview process, alongside your hard and soft skills. Unilever likes individuals who are clearly personable and nice to work with.
