    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I work in Engineering Operations and have been in 4 different teams throughout the year. I get to work by cycling or free company shuttle bus (from Coventry Station) at 7-7:30am but I am able to choose any time between 7-9am. My work day is 8 hours + 0.5 hour unpaid lunch. Day can be mix of office or lab/workshop work with some teams meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • YES! Developed lots of existing communication, presentation, organisation skills etc. Learnt lots of new engineering skills within all of my different teams as well. The only limitation to your potential development at JLR is your own determination and work ethic.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Absolutely. I was trusted to take charge on important projects, deal with suppliers and organise whole lab operations for the day.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Huge amounts. My managers and mentors through all the different teams were incredibly helpful and supportive. They made sure that my experience was the priority and that I was getting the most out of the year. Additionally, I had a dedicated cohort lead from the early careers team who was there to help with any issues.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very positive, welcoming and early careers friendly. Everyone respects and values early careers and I have found myself welcome in all different teams. The company places real importance on working culture and inclusivity which definitely shines through.

  • Be authentic, research the Creators Code and Reimagine strategy to gain understanding of the future direction and soul of the company. If this aligns with your own values then make sure that shines through in any assessment centres/interviews you do.
