Overview
I had to work on product campaigns and lead some projects from start to finish. I worked on new releases and their advertising campaigns, worked with our partners for our brand, managed our brand budget and helped with asset creation. I had multiple opportunities to be creative and express my ideas and always had my opinion listened too. I also worked collaboratively everyday with my immediate team and the wider Homecare team, having regular calls and meetings.
Skills
I have learnt a lot of both professional and personal skills whilst at Unilever. The main skill that I have developed is my public speaking - I have had many opportunities to present to both internal teams and also external agencies. This has boosted my confidence and I am now much more comfortable with presenting to larger groups of people. I feel as though this will be extremely beneficial to take into my final year of university.
Responsibilities
I was given lots of responsibility on my placement - I had to manage relationships with several partners and keep the relationship positive. This meant speaking to senior members of staff at other big companies. Additionally, I was given the responsibility of multiple new products and campaigns - some of these were my sole responsibility to get over the line.
Support & Guidance
I received great support during my placement year and my manager was always extremely supportive. If there were any issues, I could speak to my manager straight away and felt comfortable to do so. The future careers team made the onboarding informative and told you who to go too if you needed any support at all. The Homecare team was always supportive and you could always speak to someone.
Culture
The general atmosphere was very friendly, the homecare team were extremely welcoming and everyone would have a chat with you. I found the Kingston office more friendly and less corporate than 100VE. I also liked how flexible Unilever were with your work, enabling you to finish your work when it suited you and it enabled you to comfortably go to appointments .etc. when needed with no concern.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement, I have made great friends and really learnt a lot about the working world. I've enjoyed being given lots of responsibility, enabling me to get stuck into most areas of marketing which has been a great experience. I feel as though I'm now more prepared for the working world wherever I decide to go next.
Yes
Just be yourself throughout the experience - you'll learn what you like and what you don't so much to take forward into the future. Just keep being positive as that what helps you to get through the challenges!
