Overview
My role varies daily based on location and tasks, involving a mix of internal alignment meetings and external supplier interactions. I create presentations, conduct desktop research, and produce key documentation. I engage with suppliers to explore opportunities, identify new project ideas, and resolve issues through structured gateways. The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and project management skills to ensure smooth delivery and alignment across teams and stakeholders.
Skills
Over time, I鈥檝e significantly developed both soft and technical skills. My communication, time management, and teamwork abilities have grown through daily collaboration and stakeholder engagement. Technically, I鈥檝e deepened my understanding of the automotive industry, with a strong focus on electrification and manufacturing processes. This includes exposure to emerging technologies, production methods, and industry standards, all of which have enhanced my ability to contribute effectively to complex, cross-functional projects.
Responsibilities
I was given some responsibility during my placement, though I would have appreciated a more gradual introduction. Early on, I was asked to present to a supplier without proper guidance, which felt rushed and overwhelming. Since then, responsibilities have been limited, possibly due to that experience. I would have preferred a more tailored, supportive approach. That said, I had enough tasks to stay engaged, and I felt trusted with meaningful work that contributed to progress.
Support & Guidance
Support during my placement was moderate. While my seniors expressed willingness to help, their availability was limited, and the environment sometimes made it difficult to approach them. However, I received valuable support from a few friendly colleagues and built strong friendships. The cohort leads were approachable for venting, though their advice often felt generic. Overall, while guidance was inconsistent, I found ways to navigate challenges and appreciated the peer support I received.
Culture
The company culture felt moderate overall. Through conversations, I learned that the manufacturing environment was somewhat of an outlier, as other teams seemed more upbeat and positive. While the atmosphere in my area wasn鈥檛 particularly vibrant, the company鈥檚 core values were clear and admirable. There was a sense of professionalism and purpose, but the day-to-day vibe varied depending on the team. Despite this, I appreciated the opportunity to observe different cultural dynamics across departments.
Your Impressions
The start of my placement was challenging鈥攁n argument in the second week left me feeling unsupported and excluded, which impacted my confidence and performance. However, as time went on, I was able to move past it and focus on making the most of the experience. I appreciated the opportunity to explore a professional environment, visit amazing places, and meet lovely people. It became a valuable chance for growth, learning, and self-reflection.
