  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Completing various admin tasks used by several departments on a day to day basis. Managing 300+ orders (engines) at any one time and working with multiple departments to get them built and shipped on time whilst communicating this info to customers. Speaking with people all across the world.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Excel skills most definitely as I now run the vast majority of admin tasks for our Supply chain and customer service department. My communication skills have massively improved as I speak with various people in various job roles and locations on a regular basis.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Some may say too much as past placement 西瓜视频s seem to have struggled from what everyone said to my upon starting. I was thrown in at the deep end with many people out of office on sick leave, maternity leave and general changes to the business due to my role in supply chain. A lot of work was left on my desk with little to no training initially, but I managed my way through it and asked for guidance and help where needed to ensure the job was done correctly.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received strong support and guidance throughout the entire experience. My manager provided clear direction and constructive feedback, which helped me improve and grow in my role. The team was approachable and always willing to offer assistance when challenges arose, creating a positive and collaborative environment. Additionally, participation in development activities and training sessions offered valuable learning opportunities and peer support. This combination of management, teamwork, and structured development ensured I felt well-supported as I adapted to the demands of the role.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was professional yet welcoming, fostering a positive and collaborative atmosphere. There was a strong emphasis on teamwork and open communication, which made it easy to connect with colleagues across different departments. The environment encouraged continuous learning and improvement, with opportunities to get involved in various projects beyond my immediate role. Despite the fast-paced and sometimes challenging nature of the work, the supportive culture helped maintain motivation and a sense of belonging throughout the placement.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement as it provided valuable real-world experience that complemented my studies. The variety of tasks and responsibilities kept me engaged and constantly learning. I appreciated the opportunity to work closely with different teams and manage customer accounts, which helped develop my communication and problem-solving skills. Although the commute was sometimes challenging, the supportive work environment and the chance to apply my knowledge made the experience rewarding and worthwhile. Overall, it was a positive and enriching year that has significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth.

  • My advice to others applying to Cummins would be to thoroughly research the company and its operations to demonstrate genuine interest during the application process. Be prepared for a multi-stage selection process, including tests and interviews, by practicing relevant questions and scenarios. Stay resilient and open-minded, as placements can be competitive and may require flexibility, such as commuting or hybrid working. Once on placement, take every opportunity to get involved, network across teams, and embrace learning beyond your immediate role to make the most of the experience
