Overview
On a day to day basis my job includ the design of mechanical and electrical systems using CAD. drafting drawings based on CAD models. Discussing the prototyping of components with suppliers and being part of supplier meetings to discuss scaling up of production. I also took part in validation exercises and ensuring components were designed to meet applicable engineering standards.
Skills
Previously I had not had much experience of CAD in any sense, so greatly improved my design capabilities. I also developed business acumen and professionalism when presenting, contacting or meeting with suppliers or external visitors.
Responsibilities
Towards the end of the placement I was given much more responsibility and was able to see the value provided from my work. The progression of responsibilities felt manageable and like I was being challenged at an appropriate level throughout.
Support & Guidance
The team at Accelera was very supportive and was always able to provide support or materials when I was unsure or wanted support. The onboarding process was also helpful in this way but could have been tailored more to my role - though this is something that I have helped to develop or future 西瓜视频s.
Culture
The culture is very good, everyone is approachable and at no point did I feel as if I could not reach out to anyone or ask for help. It is an enjoyable place to work and everyone was respectful of working hours. It is also very flexible and there is a good balance between ability to work at home and in office presence.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement year with Accelera, it has provided me with many opportunities that I did not have before and been an incredible introduction to working in Engineering.
Yes
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in external activities, site visits and expos. Take advantage of these alongside all of the training provided to you. Being on site is also very important, the relationships built in person will greatly improve your overall experience.
