  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I internall coordinated responses for client questionnaires, covering multi asset, fixed income, equities, and money market funds. This required reaching out to various people across the company in different specialisms, from business operations to investment and ESG specialists.

  • I have developed my understanding of how the asset management business functions as a whole. Time management and independence are key developed skills. I have also developed my coding skills, learnt to code in VBA, and learnt how to effectively collaborate across multiple stakeholders.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes. After a few months in, I was essentially trusted to work independantly and to coordinate my own client requests, taking full ownership of a quarterly request and developing the process to streamline and improve data quality.

  • I worked independantly most of the time, occasionally working with colleagues across EMEA and APAC and rarely AMER. My home team was absent most of the time, however.

  • good people at the firm but it's overall a bit slow.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I think the placement was a great experience. The firm is very inviting and colleague are more than happy to sit down and chat - I met colleagues across EMEA during my time, visiting people in their offices and everyone was more than happy to share their knowledge and to create a friendly connection beyond a corporate setting. If you're proactive and eager, I would highly recommend UBS

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to UBS
  • Be yourself during the interview process and be interesting. People had varying backgrounds from finance to engineers - some summer interns had history backgrounds. Overall convey why you're interest and show that you're an interesting person. For example, prior to switching to finance, I was a music Î÷¹ÏÊÓÆµ.
