    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I design, deploy, facilitate, and analyse learning programs for manufacturing within the Global Business Operations Learning team. My role involves creating instructional materials, implementing training across global sites, leading sessions, evaluating program effectiveness, and collaborating with experts to ensure content accuracy and continuous improvement.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned numerous new skills and significantly developed many of my existing ones. One notable new skill is cross-cultural communication. Working in a global team with a global audience, I have effectively navigated language barriers and time zone differences. I have also greatly improved my public speaking and presenting skills. At the start of my placement, I was quite poor at this and very nervous. However, I am now confident in presenting both in person and virtually, delivering with confidence and passion.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement, I was given a lot of responsibility. Within the first few months, I was given ownership of a global learning program to track, manage, and facilitate. I was trusted to be at the pilot alone, making judgments and decisions independently. Throughout the year, my responsibilities increased as I was given more projects to handle. In addition to my main tasks, I was also asked to organise the agenda and activities for multiple three-day team meetings. This showed that my team trusted me.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received lots of support throughout my placement. The Future Career Department was there for us all year long, providing guidance and resources. My Function Lead regularly checked in with us to see if we needed any support. We also had a two-day function-specific event mid-year to follow up on our placement experiences, which was really nice. My team was very friendly and helpful throughout the entire experience. They were always happy to give advice and assist with any challenges I faced. Whether it was providing feedback on my work, helping me navigate complex tasks, or offering encouragement, their support was invaluable. This collaborative environment made it easier for me to learn and grow in my role. Our employer, Manpower, was always available to answer any contract or pay queries, which was more useful than I had initially thought!

  • The company culture at Unilever was fantastic. It was very welcoming and friendly, creating a really nice general atmosphere. People were always interested in getting to know more about you, and it wasn't just about work. Overall, it was really great, and I can't fault it. One of the main reasons I'd like to come back and work for Unilever is because of how wonderful the culture is.
