Overview
This was a 2 day program and it covered the service lines involved in Accounting. We had a range of guest speakers, ranging from a partner in EY to employees who joined with the graduate program. They shared their experiences of what it鈥檚 like working EY, giving details on their day to day lives and the EY work culture. We were also given helpful tips to use during interviews and what to expect at the EY Experience Day and what the assessment centre consisted of.
Skills
I鈥檝e learnt that agility is a key skill to use when working for EY. I also developed my team working and collaborating skills, as I was tasked with a group project which was a practice for the assessment that we will experience. I had to explain my initiative for improving EY鈥檚 sustainability and also defend it from criticism. I then had to critique my group members own initiatives, giving reasons to why the implementation may or may not work, and if it was a priority or not.
Business Insight
It has helped me further understand where I would like to take my career, and differentiate between what interests me and what doesn鈥檛. The deep insight we were given during this two day programme gave me a well rounded understanding about the world of Accounting and what it means to be an accountant. The work that needs to be put in everyday in order to ensure that tasks are being completed is admirable.
Culture
It was very different to what I had thought it was going to be like. There was none of the aggressiveness that I had expected when walking into one of the Big Four firms. It seemed as thought everyone was happy with what they do and the work that was given. There was no excessive late nights or crazy deadlines and the vibe likened EY to more of a community. Every person cares about what they do and do it to the best of their ability.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the opportunities that were provided for us. We were given a mock assessment that was similar to what we would experience in the assessment centre, allowing us to familiarise ourselves with what was to come. I felt that it was really helpful to include that.
Yes
I would say that stressing about what course you do doesn鈥檛 really matter, as the people i鈥檝e spoken to haven鈥檛 all had accounting/economic backgrounds.
