Overview
My role consisted of buying a specific material and managing this globally. I ensured that our regional teams followed our global allocation for the year which included specific prices and supplier allocations which was key to business continuity. I also took part in face to face negotiations with suppliers which was a fantastic opportunity to network and gain an insight into the purchasing process which I studied at university.
Skills
I significantly developed my networking skills. Being in a global role allowed me to connect with people from across the world and understand how to work with people who have different roles and cultures. Furthermore, my excel skills improved over the year as this was a tool I used in my day to day activities. Overall, my confidence has improved since joining Unilever.
Responsibilities
Yes, I had the ability to work autonomously and take on/lead projects for the portfolio. I thoroughly enjoyed this independence and knew if I required assistance my manager would be there to support.
Support & Guidance
Within the office we had lots of different support networks. We had buddies to help us settle into our roles and a point of contact who we could go to if we had any personal or work based concerns. My manager was based abroad but this did not affect the support I had from them during my time at Unilever.
Culture
The culture in the office was great. I knew I could turn to anyone for support and there are so many people who are happy to sit and listen to your problems and help find a solution.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and would love to return to Unilever after finishing my studies at University.
Yes
Be yourself during the hiring process and if you are successful, get involved in workplace activities and network with people both in the office and colleagues who are based elsewhere.
