The Role
I enjoyed my internship very much. The work-life balance is excellent, and there are lots of learning opportunities
The feedback that colleagues give are very insightful. There were a lot of responsibilities given even with tight deadlines, so the value I thought I had was very high
The environment is very relaxed, therefore you are free to ask any questions to anyone around the office. When given work, the associate/manager always makes sure you understand the problem. The guidance is not framed in a way that assumes you don't know anything, which is always a plus
There were periods that were extremely busy, especially on project deadlines with big clients. Although, not many people stay back that late. There were days that I was quite free, but this is very infrequent and is really only the first few days. However, as it is during the summer I wouldn't mind been given more work that required me to stay late.
Depending on the scope of your work and your client, this will range. Do get used to reviewing senior consultants work, although it does sound odd at first. I was given a lot of responsibility half way in, and that was a really good thing as I felt valued.
I have learnt on data manipulation on Excel and a lot of VBA macros. It will definitely help in any career path
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is very relaxed. People are friendly and there are always very sociable.
Excellent. You are arranged with a line manager and a client/project to get you going. Although you must take your own initiative to ask for work, the internship is definitely structured in a way that prevents you from having nothing to do. You are event set up with associates if you are looking for a place to stay
A lot of personal training and development has went to individual prep. You are told in depth of the pensions industry, the examinations, excel skills, calculation skills, etc. Some of the talks are also held by senior consultants, which go to show how far they went to develop everyone
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
Quite appealing
The Culture
There is a summer social, a rounders tournament, free tickets to the cricket game, and weekly trips to the bar
Not cheap. Reigate is almost comparable to London. Thankfully this is alleviated slightly through the subsidized canteen and living with an associate
There are pubs and bars around, but restaurants are not really open late. There is only one "club"
You are able to get off work at 5pm, so you have much time to do so if wanted
