    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed working at Hays over the last 12 months. My personal highlights include contributing to every placement on the Underwriting desk during my time here. Also I have enjoyed learning a new skill set in recruitment, which has developed my commercial and corporate knowledge significantly.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As my time at Hays went on I felt that my market knowledge developed well and that the team valued my input accordingly. I felt that the overall team has valued my input as I have successfully placed candidates with other members of the team and not just in my specific desk, contributing to the whole performance of Insurance.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The training and support offered at Hays is very impressive, at the beginning of the placement all interns took part in a 12 week training plan that saw the many aspects of life in recruitment covered. We were taught whilst we worked, allowing us to use real examples and apply it directly to our workloads. Support offered throughout the placement year was also very good, my managers were always on hand to offer support or guidance when it was needed, learning from their experience in this industry.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The workload does really differ, depending what the desk and your team is doing at that time. Working a 180 degree role meant that my focus was solely candidates and if the desk was quiet I could find myself wishing I was busier. However, saying that there are always things to be done and having quieter periods allowed me to keep on top of tasks which are not always urgent. Overall the level of busy I experienced was manageable and allowed me to get work done at a nice pace.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My direct manager worked 3 days a week from the office and an additional day at home, meaning that on those days I was in charge of the general running of my desk and roles. I took on the responsibility of liaising with clients, arranging interviews and registering jobs if they were called in. The extra responsibilities were a great chance to develop my skills further and learn more about this industry.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • From taking part in this placement, I have really developed my time management skills, allowing me to break up my days into more productive and beneficial segments. I think this experience has helped me forge a good work ethic, with the work hard play hard mentality attributed to this lifestyle of reward and praise. Additionally I feel I have developed my commercial awareness and also my own personal confidence to have my voice heard in a professional manner.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in this office is very fast paced, sometimes pressurised and always competitive. We celebrate every deal and encourage success across the teams. Generally it was always a friendly atmosphere, with my colleagues being sociable and willing to help.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The structure and organisation of this placement year has been brilliant. We had reviews and catch ups throughout the twelve months, reflecting how our placement was progressing and commenting on our performance constructively; helping me to get the most out of this opportunity.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned before, the training and development offered at Hays is very good and highly beneficial. We received regular updates on system issues and how the use of the system can be used to improve your day's work. We received top up training throughout the year which covered a number of the areas included in recruitment: Sales Writing, Candidate Management and Time Management for example.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Considering the opportunities and success I have seen at Hays during my twelve months in this organisation I would find Hays to be a very appealing future employer. The levels of success and financial reward I have witnessed this year make this career path a potentially very lucrative one. There would also be opportunities to travel and work abroad, something I have always wanted to do.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • The interns socialised most weeks, as did the full time, permanent staff. Everyone got on very well and it was good to meet up after work to relax and enjoy ourselves, Apart from the numerous staff events that we were included in, there were usually drinks on Fridays and other nights of the week to chill and unwind after a long week!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Working in central London it obviously isn't cheap. However the experience is definitely worth it, There are so many interesting places around where we work that for the year it was great to just go out and enjoy ourselves when we could,

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, working in central London means there is no shortage of places to go around work, easily within walking distance. Also, using the underground it is very easy to find somewhere to go in the near distance.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many social activities whilst working at Hays. We had quarterly wrap ups to celebrate the office's success and reflect on achievements.
