The Role
I have really enjoyed my placement year in the Compliance Department at Hays. The knowledge I have gained and the responsibility I have been given will assist me in my future career.
The Compliance Team have been amazing over the year and have supported me throughout. I have been given more responsibility over the year and am trusted by my colleagues.
My manager has supported me 100% during the year. She has given me opportunities to visit other parts of the business to enhance my placement year. Having monthly reviews to discuss my objectives and progress have kept me constantly motivated and has allowed me to discuss any issues. I have learnt a lot from my manager and hope to take these lessons into my future .career.
The amount of work has varied over the year depending on my experience and the seasons. I have always been given the opportunity to take on more work and now also assist another team with their administration work.
Obviously this has increased during the placement. Towards the later end of my placement I have been responsible for training new team members and particular processes within the team.
This placement has allowed me to put the theory I have learnt at university into practice. I know look forwards to taking my practical experience and relating this to the theory. The skills I have learnt relating to the office be relevant to any future role.
The Company
The office is a lovely place to work as the team work closely together to support each other. The Helpline receives a different query with every email or call we receive which means we need to be constantly ready for whatever is thrown our way. I have enjoyed working in this team and will miss the office atmosphere; I don't believe many office offer the support and progression that this one does.
The internship scheme at Hays is very well established. Unfortunately it is more aiming towards Recruitment Consultant roles and therefore so of the content was not relevant to my role. My manager was able to arrange my year to allow me to gain the most from it.
I have had a lot of training within the department from colleagues and managers. I feel that the level of knowledge I have gained is invaluable.
I would be happy to return to Hays. Hays is a company with values that I relate to so if I was able to secure a role which allowed me to work in finance I would be very pleased to accept.
The Culture
I haven't really met the other interns in the business. I have had a good social scene with the team I am in so am happy with that.
Being London based the cost of living is high. However the wage I earned has allowed me to live in a flat share and support myself during the year.
London night-life is great and offers something for everyone.
Again London offers everything you could need.
