The Role
This year has been very stressful and very, very busy at times but overall it has been an enjoyable experience. Certainly the working environment has been very supportive and everybody makes themselves available to help.
Very much so. Hays put great emphasis on providing feedback, performance is rewarded and incentives are put in place. My colleagues recognise difficult situations dealt with well and are alsways happy to go on their experience to help.
This area could have been improved. Colleagues were very helpful but mainly because, in my eyes, my manager wasn't necessarily
Overall busy. It depended on workflow but we were dealing with a client needing high-volume recruitment to a high standard which meant the pressure was always on and a quick turnaround was needed for each role.
At one point I was responsible for this client's recruitment in it's entirety across a range of locations. A team of two, if my manager was on annual leave I took complete responsibility for the desk. I have since moved into a different role, the only person in the office filling this role and so completely responsible for the task. I have to manage my own time and adapt to the workloads.
This year has taught me many different skills from office politics to becoming more decisive and how to manage my time to get a job done as efficiently as possible. These will help in my studies and managing my dissertation.
The Company
Incentives run constantly, loud office, everyone on the phone, theme days, managers have to keep atmosphere lively to keep performance up. It's noticeable when there are less people in the office at holidays and it's much quieter.
Theoretically very well set up centrally. Set process - online training, manual to go through, training in the big offices in London and Birmingham (all expenses paid) and extra skills training in offices locally. I think I was the first intern in this particular office and so there were some expected teething problems in terms of following through these processes.
The above being said, I have still been given the same training and responsibility as a permanent member of staff, even though contracted only for a year,

I am being kept on past my initial contract end date in the office, to go on as long as possible, potentially alongside university. I feel fairly confident that if I wanted, I could return here after university. I would prefer to pursue Accountancy first though and only come back here if this wasn't possible.
The Culture
Our office is the only one in the area to have an intern and so I had little interaction with other interns. There were attempts to create an intern community - newsletters, email groups to share successes, presentation days to share what we had learnt, but without the ability to physically meet up easily this was of limited effect to me. I cannot speak for larger, more intern-populated offices.
Cheap.
There was a variety
With colleagues - yes, always trying so work nights out and birthday lunches and one girls hen do. In terms of the area, this is not an area where extra curricular activities are readily available.
