    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement year at Hays Recruitment. It gave me a brilliant insight and spring boarded my professional and personal development. I learnt the fundamentals of working in a large FTSE 250 organisation and how recruitment works. I was placed on an exciting desk recruiting in a industry I originally knew nothing about! I would very much recommend anyone to take up this opportunity if it is offered to you.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In our office, we pride ourselves on our camaraderie and professionalism. Everyone is rewarded and congratulated when things are going well, and when they're not, you have the support of fantastic managers and senior consultants. I became a liked member of the team and got stuck in when I needed to. I haven't had an issue with anyone in our office and would love to carry on a little longer!!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management at Hays is first class. These are people who understand the market in and out, having experienced the highs and lows that are associated with Recruitment. What I found out about Hays was that, when things aren't going your way on your desk, the question was never "Why's it going wrong?" or "Why aren't you doing this/that?" it was always, ""What can we do?", "How can we support you?". This I found very supportive and helpful.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Recruitment is an extremely competitive and demanding industry. I very rarely found myself without anything to do! It's a metorcractic industry, what you put in, you will be rewarded. I would structure my days, weeks and months down to a tee. I constantly found myself out meeting new clients and candidates, attending networking events etc. There was always something to do, they're no barriers in recruitment.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the responsibility of starting up a very "cold" desk, one that had not been properly run in over 6 years. I built up a client and candidate base which have now become cross discipline, in short, the relationships I have built will support other consultants and candidates to support their recruitment needs.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have now worked at the UKs largest recruitment consultancy, a massive FTSE 250 company and effectively run my own business for over a year. The systems training will support the IT element of my course and the financial control, marketing, sales and forecasting will support the business side of my course.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As previously stated, the Leicester office of Hays is very Commercial and competitive office with a lively atmosphere. Everyone in my team gets along and we socialise regularly.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There is a structured intern programme, where you know exactly what you need to do to progress further and achieve your goals. You can get promoted 4 times within your placement. You have regular meetings with mentors and managers to make sure you are on track.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training was unbelievable. I went to London and Birmingham several times to train with in house trainers who were all previously consultants at Hays. They broke it down so it was manageable. It was split into Systems, Candidates and Clients. I then became an internal recruiter so I had training for that also.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Travel loan

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It's all down to how much effort you put in. There is a clear career progression chart, which outlines exactly what you need to do to achieve promotions. Within 6 years you can become a Director, which is superb! It's an organisation that really does reward the hard work you put in.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • There were no other interns in my office, which was a bit of a shame, but the atmosphere like I previously stated was brilliant. We would socialise at the end of the week at the pub, have regular incentives and nights out and I would meet up with locally based interns quite regularly.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was fortunate to live at home so living costs were quite minimal. Leicester is a reasonably priced city also and as I'm from here I knew where to go for food etc.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Leicester has a booming nightlife and is close to other major cities like Nottingham, Birmingham and Derby so there is no shortage of things to do!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes there was. I play a lot of sport and had the time to work in the day and attend these sports & attend the gym. There was also time to socialise with colleagues and friends from home after work.
