The Role
Very challenging, and thoroughly involved in the process from day one. It's a placement that allows you to take ownership of your own work, in a sense of developing your own client base through strong relationships. Overall a good experience for anyone looking to get into a sales role.
Prior to starting, I imagined being an intern would not be invovled as much as I have at Hays. I have fitted into the culture of the company extremely easily, and have had great relationships with colleagues. I feel that I have been given a good sense of responsibility and trust from peers to complete tasks, place candidates and develop client relationships.
Due to the nature of the role, there is a lot of learning on the job. My manager has been very helpful in any queries or questions I have had along the way in order to develop my skills, as well as other colleagues I work with.
Recruitment can be an extremely busy role sometimes, and due to it being a commission earning role, consultants want to be as busy as possible. Some days and weeks were busier than others, depending on factors such as the amount of jobs we had to fill etc.
As an associate consultant, you are expected to take ownership of developing your own client and candidate portfolio. This has invovled making inital contact with new clients, developing relationships through meeting them, and successfully placing the right candidates in job roles that these clients may present. Overall, this is a placement that allows you to take great responsibility.
This placement has developed personal skills that I feel will be very beneficial when I begin my career after University. I have developed sales skills in which I hope to utilitse in future roles. If anythign else, being in recruitment has helped me learn how to match candidates to job roles, and what employers look for when recruiting people - something I hope will help me in the future. Degree wise, it has given me an insight into how large multinational PLC's operate, and I hope this will help me put theory into practice for my final year studies.
The Company
It was only a smaller office in comparison to most throughout the organisation. However, it is a good atmosphere where everyone gets on with one another, and you somewhere you can definitely have a good laugh.
Upon commencing, there are clear guidelines into how the internship will be carried out, and where you should be at in terms of development by a certain time etc. Training was set up effectively and efficiently in order to help with your development.
I was given two lots of main training modules, which involved staying in Birmingham with other interns for the duration. The training itself was quite intense, and you defintiely felt that you had learned a lot from it.

It seems like Hays is a good company for someone young to join who is wanting to start a career in a recruitment / sales role. It's a company that places merit on perfomrance rather than duration, and is therefore appealing to someone like myself who is results and money driven.
The Culture
In my office, I was the only placement 西瓜视频. However, in larger offices there are often a number of them. Again, being in a smaller office meant the social scene was sometimes limited, but there are national and regional social events that the majority of employees attend, such as the annual Christmas ball.
Being located in Lincoln, living is not too expensive compared to other areas across the UK, especially in larger cities. Socialising, again is not too expensive, but some of the more higher end bars in the city still have similar to prices to that of places you would find in big cities.
Lincoln is only a small city, so you don't get the same buzz that you may in other places. However, at the weekend, the majority of bars and clubs in the city are always busy, and it is a surprisngly good night out.
Again, being in a smaller office in a smaller location, it is often difficult to get involved in activities outside of work. But there are still activities that you can get involved in if you wish on a national level.
