The Role
My placement at Hays has been brilliant! I had never really had any work experience before I got the placement, and I thought this would act against me, but they were really supportive and helped get me settled in on my first few weeks. The work was really intense at times, but I always felt a sense of achievement in completing everything at the end of a day/week. The placement at Hays is an excellent opportunity that I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to gain a valuable insight into the world of work and recruitment.
My team were absolutely amazing! They made me feel right at home straight away, and were always keen to help if I ever had any issues - work related or otherwise.
My manager/s have all been extremely supportive during my placement, as has everyone I've come into contact with in Hays. They are always there to support and help you, and deal with any issues you may have. The management at Hays have been amazing!
My role was a busy one, but never to the point where I couldn't cope. Hays are always keen that you're not doing nothing, but at the same time, they would never want you to take on duties you can't complete on time. They give you the opportunity to be independent enough that you sort your own workload, and are responsible for making sure everything you need to do, is done.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement at Hays. I had to support a team of 15-16 people, each with their own duties for me to do. I have also had the opportunity to train new starters, as well as take on whole campaigns on my own - it has been brilliant, and I have gained so much experience.
The skills I have developed, and the experience as a whole, will help me not only in my final year whilst writing my dissertation, but will also help me to gain a job after I finish university. I have a whole range of skills that I can now add to my CV, as well as a fantastic organisation name. The experience I have had with Hays will no doubt be invaluable.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office is lively all the time - the only quiet time was Christmas! The phone's are always ringing and there is always conversation amongst your colleagues. The buzz is always there, and there is never a dull moment in an office this big.
Excellently organised placement. From Day 1, all of the interns at Hays get training course run specifically for them, to get them up to speed with the role, the processes and the systems. They are then reviewed every month with their managers, to measure their performance against their set targets. At Months 3 and 6, there are more in-depth reviews carried out to make sure each intern is working and getting the most out their placement.
Hays invested as much time in their interns as they do in all their new full time employees. You receive as much training as all of your colleagues, and are included in the invites to new/updated training courses being run. I was fully up to speed with the key processes of my role, as well as the key internal database from Week 3, then the rest is learning on the job - which was also handled really well.

The prospects are extremely appealing. Hays have said that I can come back as soon as I leave university, and they would have me back in a heartbeat - my team are begged me not to leave! I would love to come back to Hays too, so it's excellent news that they're so eager to have me back.
The Culture
The social scene at Hays is fantastic! Everyone tends to go to the local pub for drinks at the end of each week, to relax and unwind with their colleagues. If targets are hit, Hays even provide some vouchers for free drinks every few weeks. There are also opportunities to go out as teams for "Incentives" if the team hits their own targets, which is an excellent way to bond outside of work.
I didn't live up in London, I commuted in each day - which in itself is expensive, but working in London was always going to be. Socialising is expensive too, but again that's no surprise.
Being located in London (London Victoria) means that the nightlife every night is brilliant. You are only a tube/train ride away from all of the bars, clubs and restaurants that London has to offer.
Hays has a very successful "Social Engagement Team" which organises different events for all workers within Hays, including fun runs for Charity, sporting events and Pub Quizzes.
