The Role
Working for Hays Recruitment has been a fantastic experience. It is a great way to experience working life and I have learnt some brilliant skills from working at Hays. It is a very target driven job and my communication skills have greatly improved as a result of the in-depth training all new starters are given and the time I spent on the phone speaking to both clients and candidates.
My colleagues have been brilliant. From the first day they were very welcoming and always there to give me support, no matter how silly the question was! It is not easy joining a huge organisation and it can be daunting walking in to a massive office and not knowing a single person but Hays made it easy. I started on the same day as all the other interns and we spent two weeks training together so it was a great way to get to know each other.
My manager has been supportive of me right from the start, always helping me and giving me guidance when necessary. My manager got the balance right between showing me how to do things for the first time and then making me do it without help. It was the best and quickest way for me to learn on the job.
For the first few weeks of my placement I was not very busy. Most of the work I did was based around training and getting to know the software etc. At times the first few weeks got repetitive but as I moved on through the year I realised how important the initial admin and training was. After the first month I took on more work and was very busy.
After the first month, I was trusted with a greater amount of responsibility and therefore I was very busy. I grew in to the '360' role which is dealing with both clients and candidates, managing the whole recruitment process from start to finish. As a result of my hard work and exceeding targets, I got promoted and as a result took on more responsibility.
Skills such as communication, time management and work ethic will greatly assist me in my final year of university and future employment.
The Company
The atmosphere is work hard and play hard. Get the work done. exceed targets and get rewarded for it.
My placement was managed brilliantly. The internal recruiters have been brilliant, thoroughly organised throughout and always willing to help.
Every new starter is put on a training academy, it helped me massively. Since my initial training Hays have invested time in extra training meaning I can continue to build upon my skills.

Hays offers excellent long term career prospects. I will definitely consider going back to Hays after University. It is a very meritocratic culture and with hard work promotions are very achievable.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene between colleagues, we got to know each other through work parties and taking part in activities such as football and other social events.
London is very expensive but definitely worth it.
The London nightlife is excellent and everywhere is accessible by the excellent transport links.
Events such as football, pub quizzes etc.
