Day starts with a stand up meeting online where we discuss progress, deadlines and what we're working on today. The majority of my work involved sample testing for various areas such as bonus income, accounts payable and accruals. I worked in person 3 days a week and from home 2 days a week. One of my in office days was a client site visit where we'd conduct a normal working day but in the head office of our client.

I have certainly learnt a lot of specific skills relating to audit. These include getting to grips with auditing software, learning Deloitte Excel extensions and how they're useful, and how to communicate effectively when discussing audit/accountancy. Outside of this I also learnt how to ask better questions, give and receive insightful feedback and organise my day effectively as no one is going to do it for you.

I was set a lot of tasks that I expected to be completed on my own. Of course I could always ask for help but if it wasn't done on time it would've been me at fault. I was also tasked with chasing up accountants on requested samples. This was a nice level of responsibility as it wasn't too much but enough to gain valuable exposure.

I had a buddy who was extremely useful when looking for guidance in day to day tasks. He was also proactive in reaching out to me before I began my placement. I also had a people leader that I'd catch up on weekly. With them I discussed objectives of what I wanted out of the experience and subsequently followed up with how I'd met these objectives later on.

The office I worked in was very friendly, but very quiet at times. There didn't seem to be any toxicity and many of them were genuine friends with one another. We also attended an event in London to kick off the SVS and we were very warmly welcomed to the company. As a whole I felt very good about the company culture.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Deloitte, the time has absolutely flown by!

Be your authentic self. I got the impression that Deloitte could see through superficial candidates and would only opt for those who were genuine. Also don't be intimidated if you don't do something related to economics/accounting. Deloitte hire people from all backgrounds as they're looking for diverse skill sets. Everything you need to know will be taught on the job.
