Overview
Catching up with the team at the start of the day to understand what needs to be completed. Assisting with the preparation of reports and analysing data to contribute to the final audit.
Skills
I had little prior experience with accounting and we were given plenty of training on accounting basics ad how to use excel for accounting.
Responsibilities
Throughout my internship, I was given a lot of responsibility including selecting samples, sending these to the client and analysing the evidence given. I also prepared a lot of reports/workbooks from start to finish and signed them off as the preparer for review.
Support & Guidance
I was assigned both a buddy and a counsellor who I could reach out to with nay questions I had during my internship. Within each engagement, I was also assigned to a senior who provided me with my daily tasks and was available throughout the day for any questions I had.
Culture
It was a very welcoming environment and as an intern I was treated as an extension of the team.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed getting involved from day one on client work and being a valued member of the engagement team. I also enjoyed that all of the interns from across the country were given the opportunity to meet each other and network during the opening event and the training days in the Canary Wharf office.
Yes
Ensure that you go into the process with a positive mindset and a willingness to learn. Do not be put off from applying if you are not from a financial background as the majority of other interns I spoke to studied completed unrelated degrees. You get given plenty of support within the training and you are not expected to know everything straight away.
