Overview
My role was to help with different client projects that were currently being worked on, which were typically IT audits. This involved looking at evidence of different controls in their systems and updating files with the current year's evidence. I also had a presentation to do with some other interns from different offices in the UK. There was also the opportunity to shadow client calls and get involved with some internal projects.
Skills
I have learnt about the different practices that happen during an audit procedure and what is involved within a technology risk role. Also I have learnt how to use MS teams and outlook within a corporate environment.
Responsibilities
I got to work on current client and internal projects within EY so I got to complete tasks which were actually useful. The work was a bit repetitive at times since there was not enough time to get trained for more difficult tasks, but it was still nice to work on real client projects.
Support & Guidance
There was plenty of support available during the internship. I had an assigned counsellor and a buddy who I could both ask questions to. All of the team were very friendly and welcoming so it was possible to speak to anyone.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere was very positive and welcoming, I could speak to anyone on the team regardless of their level within the team. The work life balance seemed very good too, there was never any expectation to work beyond the working hours.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship. The whole team was very friendly and welcoming and the overall atmosphere in the office was very positive. The actual work was ok, it wasn't very related to my degree but it was nice to get a feel for what goes on in a technology risk role.
Yes
I would say to ask as many questions as possible at work and try to get involved with as many different people as possible. The busier that you are, the more enjoyable it will be.
