Overview
Delegated tasks from members of the FS Audit team. For example, claims testing, reconciliations, meeting minutes and smart sampling. Visited client sites with a director and sat in on meetings.
Skills
Technical: DataSnipper, Excel, Smart Sampling using the companies internal applications, understanding of client's business model. Personable: Team work, working under deadlines, attention to detail.
Responsibilities
To an extent, my work contributed to a real client project and the team trusted my work was correct. However, we were not expected/ suggested to speak up in client meetings.
Support & Guidance
We received support but only if we required/ asked for it. Especially with admin type tasks like timesheets, expense claims and desk bookings.
Culture
From my experience as an intern, the people were very friendly and nice both in the office and at social events. However, I got the impression that other parts of the year (Jan-March) were more stressful and caused some tension within the team. I had concerns about the unpaid high working hours in this period.
Your Impressions
I greatly enjoyed working with the team and coming in to the office however I am not certain I can see myself staying in the industry post the graduate scheme. However, the internship was extremely useful and insightful, particularly as we were given individual feedback from people we had worked with. This helped me to reflect on how I can improve professionally.
Yes
Work on being a competent and curious person - this will help you stand out during the assessment centre.
