Overview
Over the last 4 weeks, I have spent time working within the Safeguarding team performing a Safeguarding audit for a large payment Firm. I have performed a variety of tasks, including controls testing, walkthroughs, minute summaries, documentation summaries and email requests. I have developed a significant number of new skills and had the opportunity to receive an in-depth insight into navigating the financial regulatory landscape.
Skills
I have developed a vast array of new skills, which cover a wide spectrum, from technical to business focused. In terms of technical skills, I have had the opportunity to learn how to interact with Canvas, how to use Excel in a business setting, how to create high quality presentations and how to perform tasks efficiently whenever requested by my team. In terms of business skills, I've learned how to interact with clients, how to effectively communicate ideas and how to contribute positively to meetings.
Responsibilities
I have had a significant amount of responsibility over the last 4 weeks; I feel that my team have had full confidence in me and have constantly provided me with new tasks to complete. It's been clear where my work will have an impact and I've been treated as an equal throughout my time here at EY. I've felt more like an employee than an intern, which has been a really special feeling.
Support & Guidance
My team were extremely helpful and always made sure that I was given clear instructions for any tasks that I had to complete. If I ever had any questions, my team would respond quickly with clear and thorough instructions. I was supported through my daily tasks and had the opportunity to interact with everyone on my team on a daily basis. My team made sure to invite me to all relevant meetings and made sure that I was included.
Culture
The culture and general atmosphere has been amazing. EY promotes a culture where you're encouraged to ask questions and not be afraid to make mistakes. I always felt that my questions were taken seriously and answered effectively. The working culture is very flexible and it's designed in a way that encourages you to be yourself! I felt comfortable coming into the office every day and my team made sure that I had everything that I needed.
Your Impressions
I had a really enjoyable time over the last 4 weeks - it flew by and I will look back with really positive memories of my time here this summer! I had the chance to network with network and learn a whole host of new skills and I've learned a significant amount about Extended Assurance. I feel that this internship will have an extremely positive impact on my career and I couldn't recommend the experience enough to anyone thinking about applying.
Yes
Be yourself! All of the interns are so different from each other - EY isn't looking for a particular person, so don't try to force yourself to be something that you're not. Also be curious and not afraid to ask questions - asking questions is the best way to learn and show genuine interest. Don't be afraid to reach out to people to look for mentorship and advice.
