    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a day-to-day basis, my role involves working with our sales teams and utilising sales databases to track and report on new TV/film deals and licensees, managing asset uploads to our client portals and helping clients with asset requests for promos/launch campaigns, and the creation of marketing materials (powerpoints, digital sell sheets). Throughout the year my team works on numerous client screenings and trade events so a significant part of my day-to-day at various points has been coordinating and preparing for these events--this includes liaising with venues, organising extras such as catering, content delivery etc. Not to mention, attending, and running the events as they happen to ensure everything runs smoothly.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned a plethora of new skills; from a digital standpoint I have garnered vast experience across internal marketing platforms, and have developed my skills across many more widely-used applications such as Excel, Premiere Pro and Photoshop too. I've had the opportunity to network and develop my communication skills and gain other soft skills such as collaboration, time management and teamwork. I've seen how various marketing tools taught in my university modules translate into real life workflows and have had ample opportunity to apply other areas of knowledge such as data analysis. Overall, the year has provided me with countless opportunities to gain and build on skills not only through my day job but at socials, events and even just by being in a corporate environment for the first time.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • From day one I was given a very appropriate amount of responsibility for an intern new to a corporate role, and my manager/team were super flexible in helping me to recognise when I needed help with projects or vice versa if I felt as though I wanted to take on something more/new, there was always an opportunity for me to do so. Throughout the year, I became confident in myself and my abilities and feel as though the responsibility given to me had played a large part in this. Most importantly, I learned to not be afraid to ask questions at any point, no matter how silly the question felt!

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My manager and team were beyond amazing in supporting my introduction to the company and my role, guiding me through new projects and tasks and answering any questions. They continued to support me throughout the year and have been instrumental in ensuring that I got the most out of my placement as possible! Not only did my own team provide amazing support but I worked closely with several other teams inc. other branches of marketing, sales, and product, who also provided support when needed and were always more than happy to share wisdom and provide guidance! As interns at NBCUniversal we always had access to the Early Careers team for anything more career-related, as well as a network of 100 other interns, and additionally the Young Professional's Network (YPN), all of which have really fast tracked my early career development by exposing me to networking opportunities and hearing stories from those 5-10 years ahead.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture is everything you want a corporate office to be! Everyone that I have had the pleasure of working with this year have genuinely been the most welcoming, friendly, and hardworking bunch of people you could imagine. Not only have I felt this in my department but it truly echoes throughout the office--people will always stop to chat and say hello and the coffee bars/Skyline space are a fantastic social amenity. The best way to describe the atmosphere is that it feels very 'warm'--it's the kind of office that makes you look forward to coming in!

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed my placement even more than I thought I ever would--my expectations were already high before I'd even started as I had read and heard positive things about the internship programme at NBCU. Now at the end of the year I can safely say that they were far exceeded! The combination of the culture, the people, my role and the social opportunities throughout the year, all contributed to an incredible placement experience overall!

  • 7. Would you recommend NBCUniversal to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to NBCUniversal
  • My biggest piece of advice when applying is to show willingness and a true passion for working in TV/Film! Of course work and extracurricular experience is great but showing that you have a strong ability to learn and adapt is a more valuable than you think!
