Overview
My role was split between creating promos for our various channels across EMEA, as well as overseeing production for the campaigns on our Channels in South Africa. I spent the first 6 months managing Universal TV, before swapping to Studio Universal. This involved scheduling VO sessions, as well as booking audio mixes and exports. As a Creative, I would script and edit my own promos, ranging from 15-60 seconds.
Skills
I have learnt many new skills, including time-management, meeting tight deadlines, and scheduling. I have also developed skills in copywriting, sound design, and editing to a brief. I have also been able to work on my communication and presentation skills, taking feedback on edits as well as presenting researched ideas to different teams.
Responsibilities
I believe I was given a lot of responsibility. I was in charge of managing end to end workflow for the On-Air content on Studio Universal, needing to meet the delivery deadline for each promo. On the creative side, my promos needed to reflect the brand identity of each respective channel, whilst also being engaging to the audience.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support throughout the placement. My team were all extremely receptive and helpful whenever I had any questions. I often received great feedback on my perforce and my edits, and feel like I have developed well as an producer and project manager. My manager was also fantastic at organising shadowing sessions in other creative areas I was interested in and making sure I got the most out of the year.
Culture
I found that I was able to fit in with the team well, everyone was friendly and welcoming, and I felt very comfortable. There was also a great atmosphere amongst the Interns, it was great to make new connections and learn about their roles.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, I feel like I got a lot out of the year and was able to make the most of every opportunity. My work felt meaningful and I've managed to develop a wide portfolio. I also loved being able to work with such a fantastic and talented team.
