The Role
I definitely enjoyed my internship - it was a valuable experience. Going into the internship, my aim was to gain as much of an understanding for the Investment line of business, and experience what life as an analyst was like and I feel I was able to do this. One of the best things about the internship at the Leeds office was that we were assigned a team, but I was able to take on work from all the teams in the office (DB, DC and DIS). With the work that I received, I found that the type of work, particularly the consulting aspect, was not for me. Had I not done this internship, I would not have known this.
When I joined I felt included and was encouraged to take part, both in the office and out. The people at the Leeds office were very accommodating and were more than happy to take time out of their day to explain things to me, which I appreciated a lot.
At any time, I felt I was able to arrange a meeting or walk over to my manager's or buddy's desk to ask any questions, whether this was to do with the work or not. My buddy in particular was very helpful, even during periods where he had urgent work to do.
For the majority of the internship, I always had work to get on with (which I wanted because I wanted to be kept busy and experience as much as possible). A pretty good mix of short term work and long term projects.
Some of the work that I completed involved being a relationship manager for one of our clients. In doing this I was able to undertake a call by myself on behalf of the client so felt like I was given as much responsibility as possible, given I was an intern.
The Investment work that I did for my teams, didn't relate much to my degree (Statistics). However, the skills that I developed on the internship e.g. time management, excel skills, will help going forward.
The Company
Very good atmosphere. It was never too quite as there's always someone on the phone to clients and colleagues from other offices.
My flow of work came as and when there was work available/work to be done - there wasn't much organisation with regards to the work.
I was able to travel to London, all expenses paid by WTW, for training days and presentation days so I definitely felt WTW invested in me.

WTW is a good place to work - definitely an organisation that values its employees. If in future there is a role within the organisation that interests me, I will definitely consider it.
The Culture
There were only two Investment interns in Leeds, including myself, and also two interns that worked in Retirement. There wasn't much of a social scene amongst the interns. We socialised with the other lines of business in the office when we got together.
I live nearby so commuted everyday. There's definitely quite a good social scene in Leeds, particularly near the office.
Didn't go out to clubs, but there are a few bars nearby the office which we visited frequently, which were nice.
The social aspect of work was definitely embraced at the office. On a weekly basis I went running with some people in the office and played tag rugby. There was also at least one other social event a week to get involved with.
