    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time with WTW, the work was enjoyable and the concepts were interesting for someone who has an interest in investment like myself. I didn't want to spend my summer working 5am-11pm so this was a great chance to still have some of the freedom of summer whilst gaining experience and developing my skills

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team were extremely welcoming, I was invited on social events with analysts from across the investment LOB in the first few weeks and I genuinely felt like they wanted me to succeed. I understand that it's hard to have an impact on business when concepts are new and your skills aren't as polished as they might be, but I felt I was always included in new tasks by other team members and made to feel utilised

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The 'buddy' I was assigned for the duration of the internship was fantastic. She was very helpful in setting up meetings with contacts across the business to help me learn about the wider work we do, always involved me with new work and gave good advice on how to make the most out of my internship. On top of this, everyone in the team was always happy to take time out of their day to explain new concepts to me if I didn't quite grasp them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy, I was able to pick up more long term projects in the 2nd half of the internship and this meant I was always able to fill my time. I never felt like I was swamped and it was made very clear that I wasn't to let myself become too overrun with work. At times, it could be slow when I was waiting for people to get back to me for information, but this was few and far between.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given my lower skillset, it was hard for me to be able to take on major responsibility early on in the internship, but as it progressed, I definitely felt like I was given more independence in the way I did things.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • In my degree studies, probably not. In my further career, lots. I was able to talk with a wide range of people and pick up different things that have helped them be successful in their respective fields. The training I received was quite specific to WTW (using their in-house software), but the Microsoft office skills learned will be valuable.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was based in London, which is quite a relaxed office, but not so much as some of the regional offices. It was pleasant and people were always happy to talk to one another. They were clean and well equipped. There were a number of socials held throughout the summer.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Pretty well organized, we were given internship specific tasks. The intern induction days seemed quite pointless given how general they were. I would have liked some prior reading about the specific team I was joining in hindsight, but it wouldn't have been necessary by any means.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • On the internship scheme, not so much. But my understanding was that the graduate scheme are given lots of training and support, especially with the professional exams they take.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think that they are very appealing. WTW offers a great culture and work/ life balance in particular. Hours are 9-5 Mon-Fri, people aren't fussed if you take holiday and there is no concept of face time (Not like some of the banks where they say there isn't but there is. Here, there isn't). They offer great study packages - they pay for all your exams/ training and give lots and lots of study days. Only downside is the salary, which isn't as competitive as some of the other graduate schemes, but the work/life balance offered is invaluable.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • We had a good social scene amongst the investment interns, not so much with other LOBs. I think it depends with the kind of person you are/ the other interns are. Given this is a consulting internship, it's likely that people will be a bit more extroverted. That said, it is what you make of it really.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was in London, so rent and travel prices are ridiculous. I had my 西瓜视频 house, so this wasn't a problem. Rent would easily be 150 a week for a room and then travel would be 150 a month. Compensation probably isn't boosted enough to account for this, considering people in regional offices get almost the same as us. That said, you get a lot of choice and there are lots of interesting things to do. Socializing is expensive, 拢5 a pint/ 拢15 for dinner sort of thing.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London has some of the best nightlife in the world, so this can't really be faulted. If you want to do it, London has it.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We had our evenings and weekends free, so I was able to do activities outside of work easily. The London office doesn't have any sports teams (much to my disappointment), but there is scope for making them if you want and the other socials happen about twice a month.
